Our Story
Patrice and son Cole Santa Barbara High School Graduation June 2009 Our Story
Like most women, I love jewelry. I don’t need a 5 carat canary diamond to capture my attention, although I wouldn’t mind sporting THAT on my ring finger just for the thrill of it. I adore all kinds of baubles, bangles and beads. My engagement ring is a custom 18K Gold granulated rectangle with a green tourmaline stone designed by Moroccan-born Luna Felix. Not exactly the brilliant Tiffany round solitaire most young girls covet. But it’s ‘Me’.
From the time I was a little girl, I can remember my mother and aunts toting me along from my native New Jersey to New York City to visit their cousins businesses in the diamond district. With my eyes as big as the Hope Diamond, I would listen to cousins Frank or Matt share stories of how some of the gem dealers would scurry around west 47th Street with fists full of diamonds. “You never know what you’ll find on the ground”, they would say with a wink. My head has been slanted downward ever since.
Years later, my sister Pam (burned out on the corporate world) and I (who strayed far from my NY magazine editor days to settle in Santa Barbara) opened Elocquinn-creative fine jewelry gallery in Fort Lauderdale where Pam lives (click on photos left). As cliché as it sounds, it was a dream come true. We represented jewelry designers from around the world. It was the equivalent of being a wide-eyed little girl dressing Barbie in her black shimmering sleeveless gown with toule trim bottom, a red rose accent and matching long black Tricot gloves. (Hmmm. I wonder what ever happened to that?). The hardest part of the business was parting with each piece that we both held so dear. We still think about the woman who purchased those treasures and hope they appreciate all their beauty, elegance, and meaning. Elocquinn was a jewel box of a boutique until hurricane Katrina swept away the buildings roof and shut us down.
Here we are again, this time online only, creating a way for woman to express themselves with fun, distinct, colorful adornment at modest prices…Another incarnation of the same dream. Browse our site and share in our passion. It’s important to remember that rules don’t apply here. Mixing gold and silver, matching pearls with citrine, pairing leather with fine silver…it’s all about expression. Go ahead…define yourself!
Cheers!
