DESCRIPTION OF METALS

24 KARAT GOLD VERMEIL:
Gold vermeil, which is pronounced "vehr-MAY," is gold plate over sterling silver. The vermeil gold plate is gem quality plating that is 40 micro inches thick and very, very reliable. It has a satin finish with 24 karat color. The plating process uses 98.5% pure gold.
Gold vermeil is comparable to pure gold in appearance and artisanship. Because of its primary composition of sterling silver, gold vermeil is considerably more affordable than pure gold. Since gold vermeil by definition cannot contain other metals, people with nickel allergies or sensitivity to other metals can wear gold vermeil jewelry pieces comfortably and safely.

Gold vermeil will last for many years without tarnishing and without the gold plate wearing away if you properly care for it. You should avoid wearing gold vermeil jewelry in the bath, shower or when swimming. Do not have gold vermeil jewelry machine polished (typically performed by a jeweler), as this process can wear away the gold layer. Use a soft, clean, lint-free cloth to remove dirt, oils and other material from the jewelry.

STERLING SILVER:
Sterling Silver is 925/1000 (92.5%) fine silver and 75/1000 (7.5%) copper.

HOW TO CLEAN YOUR JEWELRY

HOW TO CLEAN YOUR GOLD VERMEIL JEWELRY:
1. Mix baking soda and water in equal parts into a paste. Mix enough to cover the vermeil item. Start off with a 1/4 cup baking soda and 1/4 cup of water and mix more as needed. Chemical abrasives are too harsh for vermeil such as soaps and should be avoided as this can cause a chemical reaction and discolor the jewelry.
2.Apply the mixture to the vermeil by gently caking it onto the item with a nonabrasive clean cloth. Vermeil is made of gold so it scratches easily. Avoid using any cloth or material that may be abrasive.
3.Rinse the paste away by running the vermeil item under warm running water and wiping it gently with a soft clean cloth. Never rub in a circular motion as this may cause scratches. Up and down in the safest way to clean gold.
4.Dry the vermeil with a soft dry clean cloth. Buff it to bring back the shine.

HOW TO CLEAN YOUR STERLING SILVER JEWELRY:
1: Deciding on the proper cleaning products to use is some what confusing and extremely important. Choosing products such as bleach, ammonia, alcohol, acetone, and other such products can damage your Sterling Silver beyond repair. Stay with a mild cleaner and be sure to dilute them with water. Some good home products to use are: baking soda, non abrasive tooth paste, mild phosphate free detergents as well as commercial silver cleaners.
2: Choosing a cleaning brush. Be careful on the type of brushes you choose to deep clean Sterling Silver. Stay away from hard bristle brushes with horsehair and abrasive style brushes. The best cleaning brushes to use may be a baby tooth brush, a very soft bristle toothbrush, or consider using a sunshine cloth, which can be used wet or dry.
Note: When cleaning Sterling Silver always clean up and down motion NOT in circular motion.
3: When drying your sterling silver jewelry choosing the proper cloth material should be taken very carefully. Use 100% cotton materials such as: old T-shirts, sweat shirts, cotton balls, soft flannel materials (all unbleached), and silver wipes. Using these types of home and commercial materials can help prevent your Sterling Silver from being scratched or even completely damaged. Your best choice for cleaning your silver jewelry is using the Sunshine cloth. It's extremely effective, non-abrasive and inexpensive. You will have it for a very long time.
